The functions of the Department of Emergency Management were incorporated into the Fire Department several years go. During this time, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated several times during blizzards, hurricanes, floods and coastal storms. Emergency Management has coordinated the collection of information and the processing of reimbursement claims through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Through use of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, the coordination of the various city departments is accomplished during emergencies
and has the resources of both the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (M.E.M.A.) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (F.E.M.A.) available in the event the emergency extends beyond the capabilities of the city departments.
