The Data Processing Department oversees and coordinates all Information Technology endeavors for City of Salem Departments which include the following tasks:
-Network all municipal departments throughout the City including remotes sites. Remote sites consist of Cemetery, Council on Aging, Department of Public Works, Electrical, Fire, Harbormaster, Library, Parking, Police, Recreation, School and Veterans Departments.
-Protect Salem's computer databases and resources through the use of firewalls and anti-virus software. Security is managed for all servers and all desktops.
-Daily Disaster\Recovery backup's of all databases to include off-site storage of media.
-Manage Salem's e-mail system and Internet access and all matters related to Salem's wide-area network.
-Administer the MUNIS financial software modules for 145 users for General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Real Estate & Personal Property Billing, Water/Sewer Billing and report writer functions. Each user is set up with proper permissions, which allow and/or deny access throughout the MUNIS modules.
-Administer other municipal software used by Salem such as the GEOTMS Building/Electrical Permit and Health modules, Assessor's Patriot revaluation system, ESRI GIS database and the Collectors Kelley & Ryan system for Motor Vehicle, Boat Excise and Parking Tickets.
-Training of employees in the use of various aspects of numerous software/hardware products.
-Long-range planning to migrate all hardware and software to today's industry standards.
